Herbert Reuben Nye, Jr. died peacefully on December 13 in Henderson Nevada at the age of 76.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Charlotte Anne Nye; His 6 Children and spouses: Christina Nye Betts and her husband Ralph Betts of Reno Nevada, Frances Nye Hutchings and her husband Frank Larteri Jr. of Livermore, CA, Charles Herbert Nye of Hendrson, Nevada- now residing in Livermore, CA, Patrick Alan Duty and his wife Rebecca Dawn Duty of Las Vegas, Erin Kathleen Velasquez and her husband Carlos Velasquez of Henderson, NV and Darren Michael Duty of Las Vegas; His 13 Grand Children and spouses : Amber Christina Spencer and her husband Anthony Spencer, Amanda Josephine Carroll, Nicholas Christopher Hutchings, Frank Anthony Larteri lll, Joseph Daniel Van Houten and his wife Elizabeth Mariscal-Van Houten, Danielle Briana Redford and her husband Alex Redford, Adrianna Marie Feller, Tyler Kenneth Willams, Chelsea Anne Willams, Carolina Cristina Velasquez, Carlos Miguel Velasquez, John Russell Macaluso and Brandon Michael Duty; His 10 Great Grand Childern: Austin Charles Spencer, Aidan Robert Spencer, Sawyer Mathewson Abate, Emma James Redford, Ella Amor Van Houten-Mariscal, Luca Ignacio Van Houten-Mariscal, Micah Cruz Van Houten-Mariscal, Aidan Joseph Poling, Audri Marie Poling, and Avory John Poling; His Brother Fredrick Hamlin Nye, his ex-wife (mother of three of his children) Judy Mathewson Earl; His nieces: Michelle Mathewson, Catherine Kupper, Beth Kupper and Jennifer Ellsworth, his nephews Brad Kupper and Mike Kupper, his grand nieces Rhiannon Rogers and Haley Nye and his Dog, Rosie.
Herbert was born on July 29, 1939 in Vernal Utah to parents Herbert Reuban Nye and Alice Stahl Nye. He graduated from Basic High School in Henderson Nevada In 1957. Herbert enjoyed a long career as a mechanic, owned several business including The Engine Factory in Las Vegas and service stations in both Las Vegas and Boulder city. Later, he worked for Ted Weins Firestone.
Herbert was passionate about deer hunting, duck and goose hunting as well as fishing. For many years he owned a small ‘hunting cabin’ in Lucky Lake , Saskatchenwan Canada and spent many Octobers there hunting duck , goose and fishing for Northern Pike on the reservoir with his family and/ or hunting buddies. In the evenings, he would cook up a feast for his companions with the days’ catch.
As an accomplished Third Degree Red Belt in the art of Tang Soo Do, Herb taught and mentored many young men and women. He also had the honor of sparing with Chuck Norris himself a time or two.
Living life simply, doing the things he loved and taking care of his family and friends: Herbert, Herb, Bert, Herbie, Husband, Dad, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Mentor… Whatever he was to the many lives he touched, everyone will remember his kindness, generosity (maybe a bit of stubbornness) and his good humor. He will be greatly missed.
Like his father before him, Herbert was a Member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge. A Celebration of Life service and reception will be held at the Lodge located at 480 Greenway Rd., Henderson, Nevada on January 16, 2016 at 1 PM.
